In Noldus’ next webinar Ylva Marie Vik, PhD student from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences will present her experiences in using the elevated plus maze and open field test to test anxiety in rodents. She will elaborate on how she handled the mice in her experiments and how it impacted her results. Furthermore, Ylva will also talk about how she refined her dataset to more accurately reflect the effect

Presentor: Ylva Vik

Ylva Vik is a PhD candidate at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), where she focuses on nutrition, immunology, and cancer research.  During her master's degree in animal biology, also from NMBU, Ylva dedicated her project to understanding the complexities of animal handling and its impact on data quality.

Her work includes contributions to the NORMA-project, investigating the relationship between the gut microbiota and Anorexia nervosa. It was here that Ylva developed her skills in assessing anxiety-like behaviors in mice and realized the profound effect of animal handling on data quality.

She is currently researching the relationship between the consumption of red and processed meat, as well as alcohol, on the development of colorectal cancer, still using mouse models.
