How many GigE cameras can I use on a laptop with EthoVision XT?
Last updated: Nov 07, 2025
It is generally recommended to use GigE cameras on a desktop computer equipped with a dedicated Intel gigabit network adapter. This configuration ensures that the built-in network adapter remains available for connecting to your local network and/or the internet.
While it is technically possible to use a laptop with a built-in gigabit network adapter to connect to a GigE camera, the necessary configuration will make the Ethernet port unusable for standard network access. If a network connection is required, use wifi or a USB network adapter.
Supported Configurations
- EthoVision XT 12, 13, and 14 were tested and supported on a workstation-class laptop using one Basler GigE camera for recordings up to 10 hours.
- This configuration was not tested or officially supported in EthoVision XT 15 and 16.
- Basler USB 3.0 (acA1920-155um) cameras are supported for use on suitable laptops.
Multi-Camera Recording
On a properly configured desktop PC with a four-port network adapter, you can record from up to four GigE cameras simultaneously.
