Which UWB tag sleep mode settings do we recommend?
Last updated: Aug 24, 2026
The 'sleep mode' allows for reducing tag battery energy expenditure. It kicks in when the subject is not moving which will put the tag in sleep mode. It will 'awake' again if the accelerometer sensor on the tag detects movement again.
We recommend the following defaults:
- Sleep mode enabled.
- Sleep threshold set to “low” (the tag will go to ‘sleep’ fast).
- Sleep refresh rate set to 5000ms. In TrackLab, a tag that is not detected for 30 seconds will becomes unvisible. By setting the 'Sleep Refresh Rate' to 5 seconds, the tag will always remain visible, and you can still save a lot of energy.
Notes:
- We are still in the process of gaining experience with the effect of the sleep mode, depending the typical animal type or human movement behavior patterns.
- The Sewio default settings deviate from our recommended settings. It has the sleep refresh rate set to ‘0’.
- Do not use a "sleep refresh rate" of 30000 ms or higher. That would result in the tag becoming invisible in TrackLab.
- The sleep mode does not affect the result of most analysis parameters. The R&D team are performing investigations to rule out possible small implications.
