Test Leader and Participant PC

Outlined below are steps to be performed prior to installing NoldusHub on a PC. Note these steps are specific to installation on the Test Leader and/or Participant PCs and does not include steps for installing NoldusHub on the server. For more information on server installation, contact [email protected].

Hardware Meets or Exceeds Technical Requirements

See supplemental document NoldusHub 1.7 System Specifications for technical requirements of all NoldusHub PCs.

SSL Certificate Is Set Up

NoldusHub uses a secure connection for communication. This is possible with an SSL certificate. Using such a certificate fulfills two main requirements:

• Encrypted communication between user and server computers
• Server identification

If the certificate used does not comply with the required formats, NoldusHub will not work.

The SSL certificate was created when your NoldusHub system was first installed. If your domain has changed, a new SSL certificate may be required.

Download and use the Certificate Check Tool to verify the SSL certificate meets NoldusHub requirements.

NoldusHub Installation Package and Related Software Is Downloaded

Use the link provided above to download all software packages prior to the remote-assisted installation session.

Participant Hardware Devices Including Webcam, Tobii Eye Tracker, and Shimmer Are Connected

Please follow this procedure for the initial setup of each participant PC and ensure the latest version of Google Chrome is installed.

Webcam

1. Connect the USB webcam to the participant PC. It is also possible to use an internal webcam on a laptop.

Tobii Eye Tracker

1. Connect the eye tracker to the test participant PC and position it at the bottom of the monitor.
2. In the NoldusHub installation folder, locate and run TobiiProEyeTrackerManager.exe.
3. Select all checkboxes and accept the firewall popup.
4. Select Install eye tracker.
5. Select the corresponding eye tracker type and click Install.
6. Accept the Windows popup again.
7. Once the installation complete popup comes up, click Close.
8. Connect the eye tracker to the PC.
9. Select the eye tracker and click Calibrate to check the functionality of the eye tracker. This is also possible if you turn on position guide.

Shimmer Biosensor

Download and configure Consensys, the software for Shimmer biosensors. Consensys has to be installed on at least one PC. It is used to configure the Shimmer devices; this can be done for all Shimmer devices from one PC.

1. In the NoldusHub installation folder, locate Consensys_v1.6.0_64.zip.
2. Unzip the file, run it, and follow the steps on your screen.
3. Choose ConsensysBASIC and enter your details (name, organization, and email).
4. Connect the Shimmer docking station to the test participant PC, insert the Shimmer device, and turn it on using the slider on the side of the device.
5. If necessary, first perform a firmware upgrade of the Shimmer device. If not necessary, continue to step 13.
6. Select the dock you want to configure and click on the Manage button in the bottom left of the application.
7. Select the Firmware option.
8. Select LogAndStream_Shimmer3_ and click the Program button. Wait until the software has finished the firmware upgrade.
9. Click Manage Devices in the Consensys software.
10. Click on the picture of the Shimmer device on the right side of your screen. The device will appear in the list on the left.
11. Click Configure.
12. In the Sampling Rate field, depending on the type of device, enter the value as seen in the table below and click the warning triangle to validate.

13. Select the Battery Voltage tile (so it is colored and not greyed out), for both Shimmer3 ECG and Shimmer3 GSR+ devices.
14. Depending on the device, see the corresponding step for the correct configuration:
    1. For Shimmer3 ECG, make sure that the ECG is selected (colored and not greyed out) in the ECG/EMG tile on the Sensors tab. Then click A on the ECG/EMG tile. Set Gain to 4 and Resolution to 24 bit.
    2. For Shimmer3 GSR+, make sure that the GSR and PPG are selected (colored and not greyed out) in the GSR+ tile.
15. Click on the field with the parameters you want to measure and click Write Config. Wait until the configuration is complete, and then click Finish.
16. Close the Consensys application.

Connect Shimmer Biosensor via Bluetooth

The following steps must be done on every participant PC that has a Shimmer biosensor.

1. Click the Windows icon on the desktop and type settings.
2. Windows 10: In the Settings screen, click Devices and ensure that the Bluetooth toggle is turned on.
   Windows 11: In the Settings screen, click Bluetooth & Devices and ensure that the Bluetooth toggle is turned on.
3. Windows 10: Click the icon in front of Add Bluetooth or Other Devices.
   Windows 11: Click Devices. The option Bluetooth Devices Discovery is now available. Switch this setting from Default to Advanced.
4. Click Add Device.
5. Ensure that your Shimmer device is on. The device will appear in the list with the ID listed on the back of the Shimmer device.
6. Click on the device name, and in the PIN field, enter 1234 and click Connect. The Your device is ready to go message will appear. Click Done.
7. Under Bluetooth & Other Devices, locate the Shimmer device and check that it is paired.

Install the Consensys System Tray App

The following steps must be done on every participant PC that has a Shimmer biosensor.

1. If the Consensys Tray App v1 is already installed, uninstall it first. The installer for v2 does not upgrade the existing version, so if v1 is already installed, you will have both versions on your PC simultaneously. After uninstalling v1, delete the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Shimmer\ConsensysSystemTray.
2. In the NoldusHub installation folder, open Devices - Shimmer and then unzip the zip file.
3. In the folder that appears, double-click setup.exe and follow the steps on your screen. Select the option to create a desktop shortcut.
4. Click the Consensys Tray app icon on your desktop. The corresponding icon appears in the system tray.
5. Right-click the icon, select the appropriate Shimmer device, and click Start. Wait until the Streaming message appears.
