3 Software installation

3 Software Installation

If you have ordered a complete Track3D system, the software has already been installed. You can skip this section.

System Requirements

For the requirements of EthoVision XT, see the EthoVision XT Help.

Windows

Track3D and CentroidFinder have been tested on Windows 10 Professional and Windows 11 Pro.

Microsoft Excel

Track3D can import EthoVision track files in the format of Microsoft Excel 2007 and later (*.xlsx). We recommend to install Excel on the computer where Track3D is installed. This makes it easier to edit the calibration files and visualize the results.

EthoVision XT and MediaRecorder

Track3D 2.0 makes use of the Noldus software EthoVision XT 12 or newer for video tracking, and MediaRecorder 4 or newer for saving video to high quality, synchronized digital video files.

Install Track3d

Follow the procedure below if you want to install Track3D on a computer other than the one you purchased from Noldus. 1. Browse to my.noldus.com, log in or register first. Under Downloads, search for Track3D. Download Track3D- Setup - 2.0.zip. 2. Create a folder on your PC's C: drive and name it MCR. 3 Software installation 3. Unzip the file and save the contents to C:\MCR. 4. Double-click MCRInstaller.exe.

important During installation, change the installation destination

folder is C:\MCR. When installation is finished, you find a folder

named C:\MCR\v715, containing subfolders and files. 5. Right-click CentroidFinder.exe and select Send to Desktop (create

shortcut). Rename the shortcut. Repeat this step with Track3D.exe

so you will have two shortcuts on your desktop.

Optional: Right-click each shortcut, choose Properties and click

Change Icons. Select the appropriate icons on C:\MCR. 6. Run the file ebussdk3.1.14.3284.exe located on the installation

drive under Utilities. Accept the default installation location and

complete installation. You can download the installation files on the my.noldus web portal. 7. Plug your EthoVision XT license key in your PC.

important Track3D only works with an EthoVision XT license

stored on the hardware key, not a software license key! Contact Noldus if you only received a software license key. 8. Double-click the CentroidFinder and Track3D shortcuts to test the applications. You should see a black (DOS) window appearing, followed by the CentroidFinder/Track3D user interface window. 9. If the CentroidFinder and the Track3D windows do not appear or close shortly after start, make sure that the hardware key is inserted in the PC and its red LED is on, and that your EthoVision XT license includes Track3D. See also page 127.

Notes

To uninstall Track3D, see page 25. 3 Software installation

Other Software

EthoVision XT and MediaRecorder

To install EthoVision XT and MediaRecorder, see the corresponding documentation.

Microsoft Excel

To use Track3D and CentroidFinder at best, install Excel on the computer where Track3D is installed.

Paint.net

We advise you to install a paint application like Paint.net, which you can download for free from the internet. Use this app to edit the calibration images in the case the markers are not detected correctly.

Enable Pixel Calibration In Ethovision Xt

Before using EthoVision XT for the first time, you must enable pixel

calibration. With pixel calibration, the 2D coordinates of the subjects recorded in EthoVision XT will be exported in pixels rather than typical measurements units like cm. Track3D only works with pixel coordinates as input. To set pixel calibration: 1. Close EthoVision XT. 2. Browse to your Track3D installation disk, under Utilities. 3. Copy the registry entry file pixelcalibration[n].reg (n= the version number of your EthoVision XT) to a temporary location on your computer. 4. Run this file and follow the instructions on the screen. 3 Software installation

Enabling pixel calibration manually

You can also enable pixel calibration manually. Please do this only if you are an advanced Windows user. 1. From the Windows Start menu, select Run, type in regedit and press Enter. 2. In the Registry Editor window that appears, browse to the following location:

HKEYCURRENTUSER\Software\Noldus Information

Technology\EthoVision\9\Settings App. 3. If "Pixel Calibration" is not in the list of entries, from the Edit menu

select New DWORD Value. Name this as PixelCalibration (mind the

capital letters), then double-click it and set the value to 1. Next, close

the Registry Editor window.

Uninstall Track3d

To uninstall Track3D, do the following: 1. Open the Windows Control Panel, and choose Programs > Uninstall a program. 2. On the list that appears, click MATLAB Compiler Runtime 7.15. 3. Click Uninstall and follow the instructions. 4. In Windows, open the folder C:\MCR and delete all its contents.
