Data lost when manually stopping a run

Last updated: Oct 29, 2026

Problem

When a user manually stops an experiment run, the data is discarded. The system also fails to stop automatically as expected. Previously, manual stops saved data correctly.

Details

Caused by the 'Discard manually aborted runs' option being enabled in Acquisition settings. Affects any CatWalk XT version where this setting is turned on.

Solution

1. Open CatWalk XT and go to Acquisition settings.
2. Locate the option 'Discard manually aborted runs' and uncheck it.
3. With this option disabled, runs that are manually stopped will be saved but flagged as 'non-compliant' so they can be reviewed and included or excluded during analysis.
4. Additionally, set an 'Auto abort time' as a fallback to ensure runs stop automatically if the animal does not complete the crossing within the expected window.
5. Save the settings and resume acquisition.
