Sciatic Functional Index (SFI) not appearing in analysis results
Last updated: Oct 29, 2026
Problem
The Sciatic Functional Index (SFI) parameter does not appear in the analysis or statistics output, even though the experiment is intended to assess sciatic nerve injury.
Details
SFI requires manual footprint measurements to be completed before it can be calculated. Without PL, TS, and ITS manual measurements, SFI will not populate in results. Applies to all CatWalk XT versions supporting SFI.
Solution
1. SFI is calculated from three manual footprint measurements: PL (Manual Print Length), TS (Toe Spread), and ITS (Intermediate Toe Spread).
2. For each hind paw, perform the manual measurement using the CatWalk XT manual measurement tools.
3. Use the subscript notation: E = Experimental (modeled/injured) hind paw; N = Normal (contralateral) hind paw.
4. For unilateral models, designate the injured side as E and the contralateral side as N.
5. Once PL, TS, and ITS values are entered for both E and N paws, SFI will be calculated and appear in the analysis and statistics panels.
6. Refer to the CatWalk XT reference manual chapter on manual measurements for step-by-step measurement instructions.
