Arena Appears Misaligned or Displaced After Duplicating an Experiment in EthoVision XT
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
After duplicating an experiment (e.g., Morris Water Maze), the arena in the new copy appears displaced or misaligned relative to the video, causing incorrect zone assignment.
Details
This occurs when the duplicated experiment retains a different Trial Control Settings profile than expected. If the wrong Trial Control Settings are selected in the Trial List of the duplicated experiment, the arena calibration or background image may not match the current video, causing apparent misalignment. Reported for Morris Water Maze setups but may affect any arena type.
Solution
1. Open the duplicated experiment and navigate to the Trial List.
2. Check the Trial Control Settings dropdown/selector at the top of the Trial List.
3. Confirm that the correct Trial Control Settings profile is selected — it should match the profile used during acquisition with the correct camera and arena setup.
4. If the wrong profile is selected, switch to the correct one.
5. Verify that the arena outline and zones now align correctly with the video background.
6. If misalignment persists, re-open Arena Settings, re-grab a background image from the current video, and re-draw the arena outline and zones as needed.
7. Save the corrected settings and re-test tracking.
