Basler GigE Camera No Power Indicator – Verifying Camera is Powered and Detected via Network Card
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
A newly connected Basler GigE camera does not show any power-on indicator light, and the user cannot confirm whether the camera is receiving power or is being detected by the PC.
Details
Some Basler GigE camera models (e.g., acA1300-60gm) do not have an LED power indicator. Users connecting the camera via a PoE-enabled network card may be unsure whether the camera is powered on. The correct way to verify camera detection is through the network card's IP configuration and Pylon Viewer, not by looking for a physical indicator. The dedicated GigE network card must have a static IP address configured using the standard GigE camera subnet convention.
Solution
1. Confirm your dedicated GigE network card has a static IP address configured in Windows network settings. A typical configuration is: IP address 192.168.200.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
2. The camera should automatically receive an IP address on the same subnet (e.g., 192.168.200.x) via the PoE network card.
3. Open Basler Pylon Viewer. If the camera appears in the device list, it is powered on and communicating with the PC.
4. Note: many Basler GigE camera models have no LED power indicator – the absence of a light does not mean the camera is off.
5. If the camera does not appear in Pylon Viewer, check that the network card supports PoE and is supplying adequate power, verify cable connections (Cat5e or Cat6), and confirm the static IP is correctly set.
6. Once confirmed in Pylon Viewer, proceed to configure the camera in EthoVision's hardware settings.
