Basler GigE Interface Card Form Factor – Full-Height vs. Low-Profile Bracket for PCIe Installation
Last updated: Oct 29, 2026
Problem
A user asks whether the Basler GigE network interface card (NIC) required for GigE cameras requires a full-size tower computer, or whether it can be installed in a compact/half-height chassis.
Details
Applies to any EthoVision XT setup using Basler GigE cameras that require a dedicated GigE NIC. Some labs use compact or small-form-factor workstations and need to confirm whether the card will physically fit.
Solution
1. The Basler GigE interface card ships with two brackets: a standard full-height bracket and a low-profile bracket.
2. A full-size tower computer is not required. The card can be installed in a compact or half-height chassis, provided the computer has a compatible low-profile PCIe expansion slot and sufficient internal clearance.
3. Before purchasing or installing, confirm that your computer has at least one available PCIe slot (any ×1 or larger) and that the slot opening accommodates a low-profile card.
4. When installing, remove the pre-attached full-height bracket and attach the included low-profile bracket before inserting the card into the compact chassis.
5. After installation, install the Basler GigE driver and Pylon software, then verify camera detection in Pylon Viewer before launching EthoVision.
