Problem

User has set up zones (e.g., Center and Border) in EthoVision XT but the analysis only provides total distance moved for the entire arena, not separately per zone. Time-in-zone results appear but distance per zone is not shown.

Details

By default, some EthoVision XT Data Profiles report distance moved as a single whole-arena value. Reporting distance moved broken down by zone requires enabling the 'Results per zone' setting within the Data Profile. Affects all EthoVision XT versions with zone-based analysis.

Solution

1. Open your experiment in EthoVision XT and navigate to the Analysis module.
2. Open your Data Profile (or create a new one).
3. In the Data Profile settings, locate the Result settings section.
4. Enable 'Results per zone' and select the specific zones you want (e.g., Center, Border).
5. Ensure 'Distance moved' is included in your selected analysis parameters.
6. Click Recalculate / Export.
7. EthoVision will now output separate distance moved columns for each selected zone in addition to the whole-arena total.
