Converting Online (Floating/Internet-Connected) SBLK Licenses to Offline Computer-Locked Mode
Last updated: Oct 29, 2026
Problem
Users with software-based license (SBLK) codes that require an internet connection each time EthoVision is launched want to convert to computer-locked (offline) mode so the software does not need internet access on every startup.
Details
Some SBLK licenses are configured in floating/online mode, requiring periodic internet check-in. Labs with restricted internet access, dedicated offline acquisition computers, or PhenoTyper setups may need the license to operate in offline/computer-locked mode instead, which grants up to 365 days of offline access per activation. Existing dongles or old SBLK codes may need to be deactivated before the new offline-capable code is issued.
Solution
1. Contact Noldus Support and request conversion of your current license to offline/computer-locked mode.
2. Support will deactivate the existing license code(s) as part of the transition.
3. A new SBLK activation code will be provided that supports computer-locked/offline activation.
4. On each target computer, open EthoVision XT and enter the new activation code.
5. Select the 'computer-locked' or 'offline' activation option when prompted.
6. The activation grants 365-day offline access per computer; re-activation will be required after that period.
7. Confirm the number of available seats/permissions on the new code to ensure all required computers can be activated.
Note: If you are converting from USB hardware dongles to SBLK at the same time, the dongles will be deactivated as part of this process and should no longer be used.
