Deep Learning Mode Not Available or Resets – Resolving with Power Settings and Restart
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
The Deep Learning module in EthoVision XT is unavailable or grayed out despite the system meeting hardware requirements and the module being licensed. The option disappears or cannot be selected.
Details
Symptom: Deep Learning option is not accessible in EthoVision XT. May occur after system sleep, power state changes, or after an upgrade. Distinct from GPU incompatibility (Pascal architecture) or missing license issues. Affected: EthoVision XT 18/19 on systems with a compatible GPU where power management settings are interfering with GPU availability.
Solution
1. Right-click on the Windows Desktop and open your GPU control panel (e.g., NVIDIA Control Panel or the display/graphics settings).
2. Find the power management or performance mode setting for EthoVision XT (or globally).
3. Change the setting from 'Power saving' or 'Balanced' to 'High performance' or 'Prefer maximum performance.'
4. Close EthoVision XT completely.
5. Restart the PC.
6. Relaunch EthoVision XT and check whether the Deep Learning option is now accessible.
7. If the issue persists, also verify that GPU drivers are up to date and that the GPU meets EthoVision XT deep learning requirements (Turing architecture or newer recommended).
