EthoVision Error 10034 – Missing Experiment Folder Files or Damaged .evxt File
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
EthoVision displays Error 10034 stating that the .evxt file cannot be repaired, or the experiment file fails to open because essential supporting files or folders are missing.
Details
Error 10034 typically appears when the .evxt experiment file is present but the accompanying experiment folder (containing video, tracking data, and configuration files) is incomplete, has been moved, or was partially deleted. It can also occur after compressing and then extracting an experiment folder if files were omitted. Affects EthoVision XT across multiple versions.
Solution
1. Verify that the .evxt file is located inside its original experiment folder and that the folder contains all subfolders and supporting files (video files, tracking data, etc.). The .evxt file alone is not sufficient to open the experiment.
2. If the folder was compressed (zipped), extract it completely and ensure no files were skipped or corrupted during extraction; re-extract if necessary.
3. If files appear to be missing, check whether an automatic backup (.evz archive) exists in the same folder or in EthoVision's default experiment directory. Open the backup using File > Open Backup in EthoVision.
4. If the .evxt file itself is damaged, use the MyNoldus knowledge base article on recovering from Error 10034 or contact Noldus support and upload the experiment folder for inspection.
5. As a last resort, if the videos are intact, create a new experiment from a template and re-track the saved video files to reconstruct the data.
