EthoVision File Error ID 10035 – Recovering Experiment from Automatic Backup
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
EthoVision displays 'File error (Id 10035)' when attempting to open an experiment file, preventing access to the project and its data.
Details
Error ID 10035 indicates a database or file corruption issue with the experiment file. Recent versions of EthoVision automatically create backup files (restore.btn) within the experiment folder, which can be used for recovery. This is related to but distinct from the existing 'EthoVision Experiment File Fails to Open – Database or File Error' article, as this ticket provides a specific recovery procedure using the restore.btn backup file.
Solution
1. Navigate to the experiment folder on disk (the folder containing the .evxt file).
2. Look for a file named 'restore.btn' in the experiment folder. This is an automatic backup created by EthoVision.
3. Rename the corrupted original experiment file by adding '.old' to the end of its extension (e.g., 'MyExperiment.evxt' becomes 'MyExperiment.evxt.old'). This prevents EthoVision from trying to open it.
4. Rename 'restore.btn' to match your original experiment file name with the .evxt extension (e.g., 'MyExperiment.evxt').
5. Open EthoVision and attempt to open the renamed file.
6. If this does not work, check for any other backup files in the folder (e.g., files with .bak extensions or timestamped copies).
7. If no backup is available and the file cannot be recovered, contact Noldus support with the experiment folder for further assistance.
