EthoVision Recording Start Delay After PC Has Been Running for Extended Period – Reboot Required

Last updated: Nov 01, 2026

Problem

EthoVision takes more than one minute to begin recording when starting a trial. The delay occurs on a recently purchased computer running both EthoVision 18 and 19 and is not present immediately after a system reboot.

Details

Observed on new PCs that have been left running for 20 or more days without a reboot. The delay appears at acquisition start and may worsen over time. Not specific to a single EthoVision version. Related to general Windows memory/resource accumulation rather than an EthoVision-specific bug.

Solution

1. Reboot the PC and test whether the recording start delay is resolved. In most cases a fresh reboot eliminates the delay.
2. Establish a routine of rebooting the EthoVision PC before each session, or at minimum every few days, to prevent resource accumulation.
3. Ensure no unnecessary background applications are running during acquisition.
4. If the delay persists after a fresh reboot, review the acquisition performance troubleshooting steps (camera driver, disk space, CPU/GPU load) as separate potential causes.
