EthoVision Sub-Components and Dependencies Must Not Be Removed After Installation
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
User or IT administrator wants to remove secondary sub-components or dependencies that were installed alongside EthoVision XT (visible in Windows Add/Remove Programs), believing them to be unnecessary or wanting to reduce installed software.
Details
EthoVision XT installs several secondary components and dependencies (e.g., Noldus-prefixed entries in Add/Remove Programs, Visual C++ redistributables, codec components) that are required for proper software function. Removing any of these can cause downstream failures including camera detection issues, licensing errors, codec errors, or application crashes. The only safe remedy after improper removal is a complete reinstallation. Affects all EthoVision XT versions.
Solution
1. Do NOT remove any sub-components or dependencies installed alongside EthoVision XT, including entries beginning with 'Noldus' in the Windows Add/Remove Programs list.
2. These components are required for proper operation of EthoVision XT (camera drivers, codec support, license management, etc.).
3. If sub-components have already been removed and EthoVision is experiencing issues, a complete reinstallation is required:
a. Uninstall EthoVision XT and all remaining Noldus-prefixed entries from Add/Remove Programs.
b. Reboot the PC.
c. Reinstall EthoVision XT from the official installer.
4. If you need to reduce the software footprint on a shared PC, contact Noldus Support before removing any components.
