EthoVision XT Compatibility with Windows 11 – Older Versions (XT 15–XT 17)
Last updated: Oct 29, 2026
Problem
Users running EthoVision XT 15, 16, or 17 on Windows 10 are being required by IT departments to upgrade to Windows 11 and are unsure whether their current EthoVision version will remain functional for acquisition and analysis.
Details
EthoVision XT 15 is not officially supported on Windows 11. EthoVision XT 17 has not been formally validated on Windows 11, though some users have reported successful operation. Attempting to run XT 15 on Windows 11 may result in launch errors. For XT 17, compatibility is possible but not guaranteed. Performance may also be reduced on older hardware regardless of OS.
Solution
For EthoVision XT 15 on Windows 11:
1. EthoVision XT 15 is not supported on Windows 11. Noldus recommends upgrading to a current version of EthoVision XT.
2. If an upgrade is not immediately possible, you may attempt a clean re-installation of XT 15 on Windows 11, but full functionality cannot be guaranteed.
3. Contact Noldus Sales to discuss upgrade options.
For EthoVision XT 17 on Windows 11:
1. XT 17 has not been officially validated on Windows 11; proceed with caution.
2. If you are mid-experiment, complete your current experimental protocol on Windows 10 before migrating the OS.
3. After completing active experiments, perform the Windows 11 upgrade and test EthoVision thoroughly (acquisition, tracking, analysis, and export) before beginning new experiments.
4. If issues arise after the OS upgrade, contact Noldus Support and consider upgrading to EthoVision XT 19, which is validated for current operating systems.
General note: Always back up your experiment files and license information before performing an OS upgrade.
