Heatmap Background Image Not Displaying in EthoVision XT Visualization
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
When generating a heatmap in EthoVision XT, the background image (arena floor or video frame) does not appear beneath the heatmap overlay; only the heatmap colors are shown without the reference image.
Details
The background and arena feature visibility in the heatmap visualization can be toggled off accidentally or may default to hidden in some configurations. Affects heatmap output in EthoVision XT across versions.
Solution
1. In the EthoVision XT visualization panel where the heatmap is displayed, look for a 'Show/Hide background' or 'Show/Hide arena features' toggle button in the toolbar or visualization settings.
2. Enable the background image display option so that the arena floor image is shown beneath the heatmap overlay.
3. Similarly, enable 'Show arena features' if zone outlines or arena boundaries are also missing.
4. If these options are not visible in the toolbar, check the visualization properties panel (accessible by right-clicking on the heatmap or via the Format/Settings menu) for background display options.
5. Regenerate or refresh the heatmap after enabling the background option.
6. Ensure that a valid background image was captured during arena setup; if no background was grabbed, the heatmap will have nothing to display beneath it.
