Merging Two Crashed EthoVision Experiments – Re-Tracking Live Acquisitions into a Single Experiment
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
EthoVision crashed during two related live-acquisition experiments. All videos were saved, but the data is split across two separate experiment files. The user wants to merge or consolidate the data into a single experiment.
Details
Symptom: Two separate experiment files exist due to crashes; videos are intact but data is fragmented. Affected: Live (online) acquisition experiments in any EthoVision XT version where crashes resulted in split experiment files. Note: EthoVision does not have a native 'merge experiments' function.
Solution
1. EthoVision does not have a direct merge function for two experiment files.
2. Instead, use the re-track workflow: create a new experiment (or use one of the existing experiments as the base) configured with the correct arena settings, detection settings, and analysis profile.
3. Add the video files from both crashed experiments as offline (pre-recorded) trials in the new experiment.
4. Re-track all trials using the offline tracking workflow so all data is consolidated in one experiment file.
5. Verify tracking quality for each re-tracked trial and make adjustments in the Track Editor as needed.
6. Proceed with analysis using the consolidated experiment.
7. Refer to the EthoVision XT user guide section on re-tracking live experiments for detailed steps, or contact Noldus Support for guided assistance.
