Radial Arm Maze / AppConduct Maze Integration – Missing MazeController Files on New PC
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
User wants to run a radial arm maze experiment using EthoVision XT with the Maze Control module, but after moving to a new PC, the maze does not connect or respond. The AppConduct Maze application and/or MazeController.exe are missing from the new system.
Details
EthoVision XT's Maze Control module relies on external companion files (AppConduct Maze application and MazeController.exe) that are not part of the standard EthoVision installer. These files must be transferred manually from the original working PC or reinstalled separately. Without them, the maze hardware cannot be controlled from EthoVision. Affects any EthoVision XT installation with the Maze Control module on a new or reimaged PC.
Solution
1. Locate the original PC where the radial arm maze was working correctly.
2. Find the AppConduct Maze application and MazeController.exe files on that PC. These are typically located in a Noldus or ConductMaze installation folder (check Program Files or Program Files (x86) for a 'ConductMaze' or 'Noldus' subdirectory).
3. Copy the entire folder containing these files to the same path on the new PC, or to a path that EthoVision can reference.
4. If the files are no longer available on the old PC, contact Noldus Support to obtain the correct version of AppConduct Maze compatible with your EthoVision XT version and maze hardware.
5. On the new PC, verify that EthoVision XT is configured to reference the correct file path for the maze controller in Experiment Settings > Trial & Hardware Control.
6. Test the maze connection with a short test trial before running live experiments.
