Problem

In EthoVision XT, the tabs and panels under the Track Editor tab (such as 'Trial #' and 'Auto Select') are missing or not visible for certain experiment files, while they display correctly in other files.

Details

This is a layout/panel state issue where the stored window position files for a specific experiment have become corrupted or misarranged. The issue is per-experiment (not global), so other experiment files are unaffected. Visually, the Track Editor appears incomplete, with tabs or sub-panels absent. This is distinct from the general 'Toolbar or Panel Layout Missing / Floating in Track Editor or Manual Scoring' article in that the cause and fix are specific to per-experiment position files (.pos and .pob) rather than a global layout reset.

Solution

1. Close EthoVision completely.
2. Navigate to the folder where the affected experiment is saved on your computer.
3. Locate the two files in that folder with extensions ending in '.pos' and '.pob'. These files store the panel and toolbar positions for that experiment.
4. Delete both '.pos' and '.pob' files. (The experiment data itself is not affected.)
5. Reopen EthoVision and load the affected experiment.
6. The Track Editor tabs and panels (including 'Trial #' and 'Auto Select') should now appear in their default positions.
7. If the issue recurs, check whether the experiment folder is on a network drive or cloud-synced location, as these can cause file-state conflicts.
