Trial Stops Prematurely or 'Trial Duration Does Not Correspond with System' Error – Basler Camera Driver Issue
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
Trials stop unexpectedly mid-recording or within seconds of starting, accompanied by the error 'Trial duration does not correspond with system.' Reinstalling EthoVision does not resolve the issue. The problem recurs consistently across multiple sessions.
Details
Symptom: Trials terminate early (e.g., mid-trial or within 1–2 seconds of starting) with a duration mismatch error. May also present as acquisition not starting for 1–2 minutes before each trial. Affected versions: XT 17/17.5 confirmed; likely applies to other versions using GigE cameras. Root cause: The network adapter used by the GigE camera is running the wrong driver (not the Basler-specific driver), causing unstable camera signal and timing errors.
Solution
1. Open EthoVision and navigate to the camera/acquisition settings.
2. Identify the network port that the Basler GigE camera is connected to.
3. Reselect or reassign the Basler-specific drivers for that network port (refer to the GigE camera technical note for your EthoVision version for exact steps).
4. Reboot the PC.
5. Run a test trial to confirm trials start promptly and run to their full configured duration.
6. Additionally, if the PC has been running for several days, reboot it before a testing session to clear any accumulated resource issues.
7. If the issue persists, check whether a newer NVIDIA driver update is causing conflicts; rolling back to a known-stable NVIDIA driver version (e.g., 581.57) has resolved similar acquisition delay issues.
