Zone Assignment Warning After Redrawing Zones – Zone Belongs to Wrong Arena's Zone Group

Last updated: Oct 29, 2026

Problem

After redrawing or renaming zones in EthoVision, users see a warning that a zone is not recognized or does not match, even though the zone names appear correct.

Details

Applies to multi-arena EthoVision XT experiments. Occurs when a user draws a zone while the wrong arena's zone group is selected—EthoVision assigns the zone to the zone group of whichever arena is currently active in the Arenas and Zones panel, not necessarily the arena the zone is drawn over. This causes mismatches between zones and arenas, leading to warnings during analysis or export.

Solution

1. Go to **Setup > Arenas and Zones**.
2. For each zone that is generating a warning, click on the zone and check the **Zone Group** field—confirm it matches the arena the zone is physically drawn over.
3. If a zone is assigned to the wrong zone group:
a. Delete the incorrectly assigned zone.
b. In the Arenas and Zones panel, **select the correct arena** so its zone group becomes active.
c. Redraw the zone over that arena. EthoVision will now assign it to the correct zone group.
4. After correcting zone group assignments, re-run analysis to confirm the warnings are resolved.
5. **Prevention tip:** Before drawing zones in a multi-arena setup, always verify which arena is selected (highlighted) in the Arenas and Zones list to ensure new zones are added to the intended zone group.
