No Audio in Recordings — Virtual Sound Card or Dante Controller Not Running or Outdated
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
NoldusHub recordings contain no audio, or audio is absent across all recordings including older ones, even though microphones or audio sources appear to be connected.
Details
Symptoms include silent recordings on playback, with the issue reproducible across both recent and historical recordings. The root cause is typically one or more of the following: (1) the Virtual Sound Card driver is outdated, (2) the Dante Controller software is outdated, or (3) the Virtual Sound Card service or application has not been started. This issue is distinct from a simple audio device misconfiguration in the HUB project settings and requires updating and starting the underlying audio infrastructure components.
Solution
1. Open the Dante Controller application on the HUB server.
2. Check the installed version of Dante Controller and compare it against the latest release available from Audinate (https://www.audinate.com). Update if a newer version is available.
3. Check the installed version of the Dante Virtual Soundcard driver. Update to the latest version from Audinate if required.
4. After updating, open the Dante Virtual Soundcard application and confirm that it is in a 'Started' or 'Running' state. If it shows as stopped, click Start.
5. Open Dante Controller and verify that the NoldusHub server appears as a device on the Dante network and that audio routes are correctly configured (sources routed to the appropriate receivers).
6. Create a short test recording in NoldusHub and play it back to confirm audio is now present.
7. If audio is still absent, verify that the correct audio input device is selected within the NoldusHub project or Observer XT settings.
