How to find the frame rate of a video in Observer XT

Last updated: Nov 01, 2026

Problem

Users need to identify the frame rate of a video that was previously recorded and is now linked to an Observer XT observation, but cannot find where this information is displayed.

Details

Applies to all Observer XT versions. Frame rate is not shown in the project file list but is accessible once the video is open in an observation. The frame rate itself is set at recording time by the capture software and cannot be changed in Observer XT.

Solution

1. Open the observation that contains the video in Observer XT.
2. Right-click directly on the video image in the video playback window.
3. Select 'Properties' from the context menu.
4. The Properties panel displays file details including frame rate, codec, resolution, and other metadata.
5. Note: the frame rate is configured by the recording software (e.g., Noldus MediaRecorder or Viso) at the time of capture and cannot be modified within Observer XT.
