Ultrasound Microphone Mounting Recommendations for Sound-Attenuating Chambers
Last updated: Oct 29, 2026
Problem
Users are unsure how to mount UltraVox ultrasound microphones inside sound-attenuating chambers (e.g., Med Associates chambers) without drilling or causing damage.
Details
Applies to any enclosed chamber setup where drilling or permanent modification is undesirable. Users may have received clips and brackets with the hardware but need guidance on best practices for stable, centered positioning.
Solution
1. Position the microphone as centrally as possible relative to the subject's cage/area to ensure even acoustic coverage.
2. Route cables through an existing opening or gap in the chamber to avoid drilling.
3. For cable management, adhesive command strip-based cable clips can be used to secure the cable run along chamber walls.
4. For the microphone itself, use a more stable mounting solution than command strips (e.g., the included brackets or a robust adhesive mount) to prevent movement or vibration artifacts during recording.
5. Mount from above the cage when possible, pointing the microphone downward toward the subject.
6. Test the setup before a live experiment to confirm the microphone is secure and the recording quality is acceptable.
