UltraVox Sampling Rate — Software vs. Microphone Device
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
Users are uncertain what sampling rate UltraVox XT operates at, expecting a fixed software-level specification but finding no single stated value.
Details
Affects UltraVox XT 3.2 and later. Users may assume the sampling rate is a property of the software itself, but this is not the case. The sampling rate is determined by the connected ultrasound microphone hardware and is not a configurable parameter within the UltraVox software interface.
Solution
1. Understand that UltraVox XT does not have a single fixed sampling rate — the rate is set by the microphone device connected to the system.
2. To determine the sampling rate for your setup, consult the datasheet or specifications document for your specific ultrasound microphone model (e.g., Avisoft, Dodotronic, or other compatible devices).
3. If you need to confirm the rate being used during a session, refer to the device's own documentation or query the device properties in your operating system's audio settings.
4. Ensure your chosen microphone's sampling rate is sufficient for the frequency range of the vocalizations you intend to capture (ultrasonic mouse USVs typically require sampling rates of at least 250 kHz).
5. If you are comparing data across setups, document the microphone model and its sampling rate as part of your experimental metadata.
