Simulation training for medical education
AIXTRA - Competence center for trainining and patient safety
At the AIXTRA Competence Center for Training and Patient safety, they're passionate about preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals through innovative and hands-on medical teaching. Their state-of-the-art skills lab isn’t just for medical students — it’s a dynamic training ground for aspiring dentists, midwives, psychologists, nurses, and physiotherapists.
Here, students improve their skills and build the confidence they need to succeed in their future roles, whether in hospitals or other healthcare settings.
What started as a modest initiative — a single room with just a few basic training tools like rubber arms for vein puncture and a mannequin — has now grown into one of Germany’s most advanced simulation labs. Today, AIXTRA has multiple simulation rooms, comprehensive debriefing spaces, and a dedicated control room equipped with Viso, all designed to create a realistic learning environment.
Explore this customer success story through three in-depth interviews with key contributors to the skills lab: Lina Vogt, Andrea Lenes, and Maurice Elissen. Learn how their dedication and expertise have shaped the future of healthcare training.
Lina Vogt: "An important part of simulation training is that it takes place in a safe environment."
During simulation training, students cannot harm real patients as they pratice their skills over and over again. They receive feedback during debriefing — the part of simulation training where the actual learning takes place. The scenerios are talked through with the trainer and peer students after each session. With the use of Viso, the audiovisual recording tool, trainers are able to show students how they behaved during the session and whether they achieved the goals they defined beforehand.
