Multiple error messages in The Observer XT when working from internal harddisk while no errors when working with fast external harddisk

Last updated: Aug 24, 2026

Especially when importing many datafiles (videos, external data) in can happen that multiple error message pop up.

If it works on another HDD, that means there is a problem with the drive itself:

⦁    Check if there is free space enough

As a rule of thumb take the size of a similar project including videos and take care that there is at least double the size free on the corresponding harddisk before you start a new project. Please note that mostly videos are the files that take up the most storage space.

⦁    Check the drive for errors

In Windows file explorer select the hard disk drive with a right mouseclick, go to "Properties" then the tab "Tools" then go to "Error checking" and "Check"

⦁    Check if the project folder does not contain unneeded things (do not  copy gb-s of video data to the project folder, that should be saved separately to the video folder)

⦁    Do not save project files on the Desktop! This is a kind of special folder in Windows, you should not store large datasets there.

Files saved to desktops as are not as protected as documents you save in your libraries. For example, if you carry out a system restore, they'll be deleted; and that important file you needed is gone with no way of getting it back.

⦁    Do you have admin rights? Can problems be a user rights error? In Windows file explorer select the hard disk drive with a right mouseclick, go to "Properties" then the tab "Secutity" and check that System has all permissions and the user has the necessary permissions.
