Phase 1 - The CatWalk Stand

1. Take the base frame from the box with the CatWalk stand (the widest box) and place it on the floor.

2. Put the brake on the caster wheels by putting the pedal in the 'down' position.

3. Using one of the hexagonal keys, unscrew two sliding nuts (a in the picture below) from each of the support angles and leave the other two nuts attached.

4. Slide two sliding nuts into the profile on both short sides of the base frame.

   Tip: To estimate the position of the sliding nuts, place one of the ground plates on top of the base frame. The two nuts should be visible. Make sure the cut-out corner is at the back of the frame.

5. Attach the support angle loosely to the base frame; you should still be able to slide the support angle (indicated by the horizontal arrows in the picture below). Unscrew the other two sliding nuts as much as possible but make sure they stay attached to the bolts (indicated by the circle). Repeat this on the opposite side of the base frame.

6. Attach one of the profiles (with the small and large support angle) to the support angle on the base frame by sliding the profile over the unscrewed sliding nuts until the profile rests on the base frame. Make sure that:

   • The support angle in the middle of the vertical profile points inwards.
   • The small support angle at the top points forward.

   Now firmly attach the standing profile to the support angle on the base frame by tightening the bolts on the support angle.

7. Unscrew the sliding nuts of the support angle in the middle of the profile you just attached to the base frame, but make sure the nuts stay attached to the bolts.

8. Slide the profile (with the hole in the middle) over the nuts of the support angle on the standing profile. The hole in the middle should be facing forward.

9. Take the other profile (with the small and large support angle) and unscrew the sliding nuts of the support angle in the middle of the profile (as in step 6 above). Make sure the nuts stay attached to the bolts. Next, slide the horizontal profile over the unscrewed nuts of the support angle.

10. Slide the profile over the nuts of the support angle on the base frame until this vertical profile rests on the base frame. Now firmly attach the standing profile to the support angle on the base frame by tightening the bolts on the support angle.

11. Remove the protective plastic from the two black ground plates. Lay down each plate with the slit around the support angle and standing profile. Make sure the cut-out corner is at the back of the base frame. Move the support angle and standing profile so the base plates are aligned with the base frame on both sides. The standing profile should be positioned so that there is a small gap at the side of the support angle so the protection cap fits there.

12. Now firmly attach the support angles at the bottom of the base frame (see 1 in the picture below). Also, firmly attach the horizontal profile to the support angles on the vertical profiles (see 2 in the picture below).

13. Slightly unscrew the bolts from the small support angles on both standing profiles and slide the small support angles out of the profiles. These small support angles will be attached to the walkway (see step 19).

14. Loosely attach two sliding nuts to both fixation plates. Slide the sliding nuts into the standing profile at the front side. Repeat on the standing profile on the other side. Slide the fixation plates downwards until they are positioned just above the horizontal profile.

15. Insert the other sliding nuts into the horizontal profile. Make sure the sliding nuts are positioned with the holes facing outwards. Slide the fixation plate further downwards and firmly attach the fixation plate to the standing and horizontal profile.

Phase 2 - Attach the Walkway to the Stand

16. Open the box with the walkway and take out the walkway with glass plate. Carefully put the walkway on its side so the bottom-side is facing you.

17. Take the small support angles you removed from the standing profiles in step 12. Unscrew both nuts as much as possible but make sure they stay attached to the bolts.

18. From the right side of the walkway, slide one support angle into the bottom of the walkway profile. Slide the support angle all the way to the left side of the walkway profile so it is aligned with the small profile supporting the glass plate.

19. Now open the third box and take out the camera profile. Unscrew the nut from the bolt until it is almost loose. Slide the camera profile into the bottom of the walkway profile until it is in the middle of the walkway. Tighten the bolt a bit but make sure you are still able to move the camera profile sideways.

20. Slide the other small support angle into the bottom of the walkway profile until it is aligned with the profile supporting the glass plate on the right side.

21. For this step you need a second person. Lift the walkway with the two support angles and the camera profile. Slide the nuts on the small support angles on either side into the standing profiles.

    Important: Check the following:

    • That the camera profile is horizontally centered (this is where the ground plates meet on the base frame).
    • That the glass plate is perfectly horizontal. Check this with the spirit level.

22. When you are sure that the glass plate is horizontal, tighten the bolt on the camera profile and the four bolts on both support angles so the walkway is firmly attached to the stand.

    Important: To make the camera profile more stable: attach the camera profile to the horizontal profile using a small support angle. Insert two sliding nuts in both profiles, and fix the support angle to both of them (back view).

23. Remove the black ceiling support fixation plates from the profiles of the illuminated ceiling; unscrew the two bolts and remove them from the plate. Unscrew the other two bolts but make sure they stay attached to the nuts. Slide the nuts of the ceiling support fixation plate into the vertical profile at the back of the stand. Slide the fixation plate all the way down until it rests on the horizontal profile in the middle. Repeat on the other side.

24. Take the profile with the two sliding bolts. Attach the profile to the stand by inserting the bolts into the holes on top of the standing profiles. Loosely fix the bolt on one side through the hole in the profile sitting on the stand. Next, fix the bolt on the other side; if necessary, slightly move the horizontal profile to align the bolt and the hole in the profile.

    Note: This profile must be aligned with the walkway profile.

Phase 3 - Install the Illuminated Ceiling and Corridor

Install the Spring-Operated Corridor

25. Take the ceiling support profiles. Unscrew the nut from the support angle (indicated by b in the picture below) but make sure it stays attached to the bolt.

26. Remove the protective cap from the right side of the profile with the sliding bolts. Insert both illuminated ceiling profiles into the horizontal profile. Make sure the supports at the top are pointing outwards. Align both illuminated ceiling profiles with the standing profiles of the stand. Do not yet fix the illuminated ceiling profiles to the stand; you still need to be able to slightly move them when attaching the illuminated ceiling.

27. Attach a washer (a) and a spacer (b) to both supporting rods of the ceiling profile.

28. Take the corridor lift mechanism, the two corridor walls and the corridor holders. Remove the plastic nuts (indicated by a), serrated washers (b) and one screw (c) from both corridor holders. Attach the walls to the holders with the nuts, washers and screw in the same order. Screw the ends of the corridor holders into the corridor lift mechanism. The CatWalk XT logo on one of the corridor walls should be on the outside and the curved ends of both corridor walls should be facing outwards.

29. Loosely attach two bolts, washers and sliding nuts to the two corridor protection plates. Make sure the sliding nut is positioned with the widest part at the bottom. Insert the nuts into the upper side of the stand. Do not fix them to the profile yet.

30. This step is easier with two persons.

    Important: Please be careful when moving the corridor lift mechanism not to get your fingers caught between the hinges.

    Take the corridor lift mechanism with corridor. Place the corridor on the glass plate so it is centered; the beam of the corridor lift mechanism should be on the side of the corridor walls while the hinge of the corridor lift mechanism should be on the other side of the protection plates. If necessary, move the protection plates sideways so the supports on the hinges fit in the gap of the protection plates.

31. If the corridor is in the right position (centered with the glass plate), tighten the bolts indicated by the arrows in the picture below until the corridor lift mechanism is firmly attached. Now carefully lift the corridor to its up position.

    Important: Be careful not to get your fingers caught between the hinges.

32. Remove the sliding nuts from the bolts attached to the springs. Slide the nuts into the top of the profile and screw the bolt loosely into the nuts. Slide the bolt and nut outwards so the spring is under some tension. First tighten the screw with your hand and then firmly tighten it with one of the hexagonal keys.

    Important: It is very important that the springs are firmly attached, otherwise they might come loose when you lift the corridor.

    With the springs firmly attached, lower the corridor to its 'down' position. The corridor should move slowly to its 'down' position even without you holding it. If lowering the corridor goes too fast, lift the corridor to its 'up' position and make the springs a bit more tense.

    Note: The corridor must touch the glass plate at both sides for stability. If this does not happen, it may be that the magnets on the lift mechanism touch each other before the corridor is all the way down. It may then be necessary to adjust the magnets' position.

Role of the Magnets

The corridor lift mechanism is provided with magnets. When you move the corridor to the "down" position, the magnets ensure that the corridor lies parallel to the walkway.

Adjust the Magnets' Position

Sometimes when the corridor is lowered it does not touch the glass plate at one or both ends. To adjust the magnets' position:

1. Lift the corridor.
2. Remove the protection plates (if already mounted).
3. Because you need some space to adjust the magnets, move the corridor wall that is closest to the lift mechanism further away. To do so, loosen the plastic nuts and washers.
4. Loosen the bolts of the magnets on both sides using a hexagonal key (1–2 turns is enough).
5. Push the corridor lift mechanism all the way down until the corridor wall touches the glass plate by placing a finger on the lift mechanism and gently pressing it down.
6. At this point the magnets should be sticking together. Keep the corridor down, and tighten the bolts of the magnets.
7. Lift the corridor, then lower it again and check that it touches the glass plate.
8. When the corridor is positioned correctly, put the protection plates back and adjust the corridor walls to their original position.

Optionally, install the diffusion plate by screwing it into the upper side of the corridor walls. Start with the screw at the straight (right-hand) end of the corridor wall and then continue towards the other, bent end.

Make sure that when lifting the corridor, the lift mechanism does not touch the fixation plates. If necessary, slightly unscrew the bolts on the support angles and adjust the height of the walkway.

Install the Illuminated Ceiling

33. This step requires two persons. Lift the illuminated ceiling and insert one of the supporting rods into the hole in the hinge of the illuminated ceiling on one side of the stand. Next, do this on the other side by moving the ceiling support slightly inwards and then outwards to insert the supporting rod into the hole of the other hinge.

34. Now firmly attach the ceiling support profiles, aligned with the standing profiles, to the stand. On both sides, move the ceiling support fixation plates upwards and firmly attach them both to the stand and the ceiling support profiles.

Phase 4 - Install the Support Profiles and the Camera

35. Remove the sliding nuts from both support profiles.

36. Insert the nut into the base frame in the gap in the ground plate. Attach the support profile to the stand. You need to turn the head of the support profile to be able to do this. Do not fix the support profile yet.

37. Insert a sliding nut into the ceiling support profile and firmly attach the support profile to the ceiling support profile. Also, firmly attach the other side of the support profile to the stand.

38. Attach the camera to the camera holder using the small screws and serrated washer rings (the washers go between the screws and the holder). Note the position of the power and network connection on the camera. Make sure that the camera is attached to the outer side of the camera holder. Attach the camera holder to the camera profile with the two plastic nuts.

Phase 5 - Install the Control Unit

39. Loosely attach three sliding nuts, bolts and washer rings to the control unit: one on the left side and two on the right. Next, attach the control unit to the stand.

40. Attach the metal plug of the camera cable to the cam supply connector (a) on the control unit and the white plug to the camera. When inserting the metal plug into the connector, make sure the small gap on the plug is aligned with the release mechanism on the connector. The plug is fully inserted when you hear a click. To release the plug, push the release mechanism and pull the plug.

41. Attach the plug of the power supply to the 24V in connector (c). Do not yet connect the power supply to the mains socket.

42. Take the LED cable with three connectors. Attach the single metal plug of the LED cable to the LED supply connector (b) on the control unit. On the other side, attach the metal plug to the illuminated ceiling and the black plastic plug to the black box attached to the walkway.

43. Use the 5-m USB cable to connect the Control Unit to the CatWalk XT computer.

    Important: You can only connect one Control Unit to a CatWalk XT computer.

44. Connect the camera to the Basler 10GigE Network interface card in the CatWalk PC with the network cable.

45. Optionally, install the plastic protection caps on the support angles using the small rubber mallet.

Turn On the CatWalk System

1. Make sure all cables are connected.
2. Connect the power supply to the mains socket and switch on the Control Unit.
3. The red Power and Busy/alive lights on the Control Unit turn on. The LEDs in the illuminated ceiling and glass plate turn on and the control unit sets the right lighting levels for the LEDs, indicated by the blinking of the Busy/alive light. When the right lighting levels are set, the Power and Busy/alive lights turn off.

Important: Wait at least 15 minutes before using the CatWalk system.

Important: When connected correctly, all LEDs of the Control Unit are switched off.
