Installation

Installation involves the following steps:

1. If The Observer XT, N-Linx Server and Application 2 are not all installed on the same computer, disable Windows Firewall for the N-Linx port on all computers with N-Linx components.
2. Install The Observer XT.
3. Install N-Linx Server.
4. Install Application 2.
5. Install N-Linx Agent on the computer with Application 2. Select Application 2 in the N-Linx Agent installation window.
6. Connect The Observer XT to N-Linx Server.
7. Connect N-Linx Agent to N-Linx Server.
8. Connect Application 2 to N-Linx Server.
9. Select Application 2 in The Observer XT.

Disable Windows Firewall for N-Linx Port

N-Linx by default makes use of port 5672. Inbound and outbound traffic through this port should not be blocked by Windows Firewall. Therefore, disable Windows Firewall for this port on all computers with N-Linx components, including the computers with The Observer XT and Application 2. If port 5672 is in use by another program, choose another port in all N-Linx components and disable Windows Firewall for that port instead. If all components are installed on the same computer, it is not needed to carry out this procedure.

Procedure:

1. Open the Control Panel and select Windows Firewall.
2. On the left side of the window, click Advanced Settings.
3. Click Inbound Rule and click New Rule in the Actions pane.
4. In the New Inbound Rule Wizard window that opens, select Port and click Next.
5. Select TCP and enter 5672 in the Specific local ports field and click Next.
6. Click Allow the connection and click Next.
7. Select to which network the rule applies and click Next.
8. Give the rule a name, for example N-Linx connection, and click Finish.
9. Check in the Inbound Rules window that this rule is set to Enabled.
10. Click Outbound Rule and click New Rule in the Actions pane.
11. Repeat steps 4 to 9 for the outbound rule.
12. Close all Control Panel windows.

Install The Observer XT

1. Double-click the file The Observer XT [version number] Setup.exe on the installation USB stick of The Observer XT.
2. Choose Standard as installation type, unless you want to change the default program location, and click Next.
3. Accept the terms in the End-User License Agreement and click Install.
4. When installation is finished, click Close.

Install N-Linx Server

N-Linx Server may be installed on any computer in the network. It may also be installed on the same computer as The Observer XT or Application 2.

1. Double-click the file N-Linx Server Setup.exe. You find this file on The Observer XT installation USB stick in the folder Drivers and Tools/N-Linx Server.
2. Choose Standard as installation type, unless you want to change the default program location, and click Next.
3. Accept the terms in the End-User License Agreement and click Install.
4. When installation is finished, click Close.

Install Application 2

Install the application that The Observer XT must control, for example Media Recorder. Consult the documentation of the application for the procedure. Also consult this documentation for extra procedures. For example, for FaceReader the folder with video files must be shared.

Install N-Linx Agent

N-Linx Agent must be installed on the same computer as Application 2. At present, this is the computer with Media Recorder, BIOPAC AcqKnowledge, or Tobii Pro Studio.

Important: To use The Observer XT with FaceReader or Viso, it is not needed to install N-Linx Agent.

1. Double-click the file N-Linx Agent Setup.exe. You find this file on The Observer XT installation USB stick in the folder Drivers and Tools/N-Linx Agent.
2. Choose Standard as installation type, unless you want to change the default program location, and click Next.
3. In the Plugins field, select the application that N-Linx Agent must control and click Next.
4. Accept the terms in the End-User License Agreement and click Install.
5. When installation is finished, click Close.

Connect The Observer XT to N-Linx Server

1. In The Observer XT, choose File > Preferences > N-Linx Settings.
