Installation

Connect The Observer XT to N-Linx Server

  1. Select Use N-Linx server to connect with other applications.
  2. In the N-Linx Server address field, enter the computer name of the computer with N-Linx Server. If N-Linx Server is on the same computer as The Observer XT, leave the default entry localhost.
  3. In the N-Linx Server port field, leave the default port 5672. Ask your system administrator for assistance if this port is used by another program. Choose the same port number in all N-Linx components and create exceptions in Windows Firewall for this port.
  4. Click Test connection. If the connection with N-Linx Server is established, the Status will change to Connected.

Viso

To import Viso sessions, the procedure is slightly different.

  1. Choose File > Preferences > Viso Settings.
  2. Select Use Viso Services to connect with Viso.
  3. Enter the connection details of the computer with Viso Services and click Test connection.
  4. See File Management > Import Viso Sessions in The Observer XT Help for details. To open The Observer XT Help, press F1 in the program.

Connect N-Linx Agent to N-Linx Server

  1. Click the arrow in the bottom-right corner of the screen of the computer with Application 2 and N-Linx Agent. This opens the system tray.
  2. Double-click the N-Linx Agent icon.
  3. In the N-Linx Server Address field, enter the computer name of the computer with N-Linx Server. If N-Linx Agent is installed on the same computer as N-Linx Server, enter localhost. It is also possible to enter the IP address, but the IP address of the computer with N-Linx Server must be fixed. Ask your system administrator for assistance.
  4. Click Connect. The status in the bottom-left corner of the window should become Connected.

To Find the Computer Name

To find the name of the computer with N-Linx Server, open the Control Panel and choose System. The Computer name field lists the name.

To Change the Port

N-Linx Agent by default uses port 5672 to communicate with N-Linx Server. If this port is in use, type the new port after a colon in the N-Linx Server Address field.

Important: Select the same port in all components that communicate with N-Linx Server. Also, disable Windows Firewall for this port.

To Find This Documentation

To open an application's Help, press F1 in the program or double-click the Help icon on the desktop of the computer that contains the application.

The Technical Notes are present on The Observer XT installation USB stick in the folder Documentation.

The Viso Setup Manual is present on the Viso installation USB stick.

Select Application 2 in The Observer XT

  1. In The Observer XT, choose Setup > Project Setup.
  2. Under Observation source, select Live Observation. The Devices window will open. If not, click the Devices button.
  3. Select the checkbox in front of [Name Application 2][Computer name] and click Edit Settings.
  4. In the case of Media Recorder, Tobii Pro Studio, and BIOPAC AcqKnowledge, the application will open if it is not already open. Continue with the next step. In the case of FaceReader, a window with settings opens. Select the settings. To run multiple instances of FaceReader, enter a unique name in the Identify device as field. Skip the next step.
  5. Click Edit Settings again. To run multiple instances of Application 2, enter a unique name in the Identify device as field.
  6. Click OK.
