Hardware Requirements
When you buy computers for NoldusHub, make sure they meet the requirements mentioned below. Also, make sure the network meets the network specifications. In this page, hardware requirements are specified. A tool is available to facilitate the verification of critical hardware requirements: the Installation Readiness Tool. Please use this tool before starting installation. This may save a lot of time.
Server Requirements
| Minimal | Recommended |
|---|---|
| 64 GB ECC RAM | 64 GB ECC RAM |
| 500 GB NVMe™ or SAS SSD for OS | 1 TB NVMe™ or SAS SSD for OS |
| 2 TB NVMe™ or SAS SSD for storage (optional as backup storage, 2 x 1 TB optional) | 2 TB NVMe™ or SAS SSD for storage (optional as backup storage, 2 x 1 TB optional) |
| 2 x Xeon 42xx 2.1GHz CPU processor, with at least a total of 12 physical cores, 24 threads (for instance 2 x Xeon 4206) | 2 x Xeon 42xx 2.1GHz CPU processor, with at least a total of 16 physical cores, 32 threads (for instance 2 x Xeon 4208) |
| 1 Gbps network bandwidth | 1 Gbps network bandwidth |
| Monitor, keyboard, mouse are optional | Monitor, keyboard, mouse are optional |
| Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Standard, 16-core, LTS | Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Standard, 16-core, LTS |
The server computer CPU must support Virtualization. Make sure the Virtualization feature is enabled:
- On bare metal server (physical server): the Virtualization feature can be enabled in the BIOS.
- On virtual computer: the Virtualization feature can be enabled in the Hypervisor software (e.g. Hyper-V, VMware).
If the Virtualization feature is not available, NoldusHub cannot be installed and run on the server.
In the NoldusHub system, some processes are spread amongst CPU cores (using affinity settings). This method supports only up to 64 CPU cores at the moment, so applying more than 64 CPU cores does not add any benefit for the affinity settings.

Network Specifications
The NoldusHub network requires 1 Gbps Ethernet. This means that all cables and network adapters must allow at least 1 Gbps data transfer. Take the following requirements into account:
Server
- 1 Gbps network adapter for connection to participant PC.
- Server hostname: verify that the server has a FQDN name.
- Access to the Internet.
Participant PC
- 1 Gbps network adapter for connection to the server.
- Access to the Internet.
- Fixed IP address in the same range as the server or hostname. See IP Addresses for the procedure to set up a fixed IP address.
Test Leader and Observer Devices
- 1 Gbps network adapter for connection to the server.
- Access to the Internet.
- IP address in the same range as the server or hostname.
Network Cables
- Cat5 or higher.
Network Switch
- 1 Gbps uplink speed.
- Access to the Internet.
- Enough ports for all devices.
- Recommended devices: NetGear Switch PoE 24 ports GS728TP or NetGear Switch PoE 8 ports GS310TP.
SSL Certificate
NoldusHub uses a secure connection for communication. This is possible with an SSL certificate. Using such a certificate fulfills two main requirements:
- Encrypted communication between user and server computers.
- Server identification.
NoldusHub uses SSL certificates in two different formats: *.pfx and *.crt. A decrypted certificate private *.key file is also required. The password of the certificate in the *.pfx format is required too. Please note that this password has to be entered in plain text (unencrypted) in one of the NoldusHub configuration files.
If the certificate used does not comply with the required formats, NoldusHub will not work. It is good practice to check whether the used certificate complies. This check can be performed with the Certificate check tool, which is shipped with the installation package.
It is possible to convert an SSL certificate into different formats, e.g. from *.pfx to *.crt and to unencrypted *.key. There are different ways to do this, e.g. using the OpenSSL toolkit.
To install the SSL certificates on the NoldusHub server, follow the Set Up a Secure Connection for Your Subdomain guide.
