Viso 12 Setup - Computer Setup - Switch Off Password Protected Sharing on Viso

Last updated: Jul 28, 2026

Switch Off Password Protected Sharing on Viso Recorder PC

To make sure that the folder where Viso stores its video files can be accessed by all computers in the Viso network, the folder with video files must be accessible without a password.

The procedure differs for a Windows workgroup or a domain. To see whether the Viso network is in a workgroup or a domain, open the Control Panel and choose System and Security > System. The type of network is listed under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings.

Procedure for Workgroup

  1. Log in with administrator rights to the computer with Viso Recorder.
  2. Open the Control Panel and choose Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
  3. Click Change advanced sharing settings.
  4. Unfold the workgroup you are working in.
  5. Under Password protected sharing, select the option Turn off password protected sharing.

Procedure for Domain

  1. Press the Windows key + R.
  2. Type msc and press OK.
  3. Open the Users folder and double-click Guest.
  4. Deselect Account is disabled and click OK, then close the lusrmgr window.
  5. Press the Windows key + R.
  6. Type msc and press OK.
  7. Open Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment and double-click Deny access to this computer from the network.
  8. Click Guest and then choose Remove > OK.
  9. Close the Local Group Policy Editor.

Extra Steps for All Computers

Guest access in SMB2 is disabled by default in Windows 10 and Windows 11 Fall Creators Update version 1709 and higher. On the latest updates of Windows 10/11, these steps need to be performed on all computers in the Viso network.

  1. Open the Local Group Policy Editor as above, then select Network.
  2. Select Lanman Workstation.
  3. Double-click the Enable insecure guest logons option.
  4. Check the Enabled option.
  5. Select OK.
  6. Repeat this on all computers which need to connect to each other in the Viso network.

Turn Off Automatic Updates for Device Drivers

To make sure your recording devices use the drivers that were tested with Viso.

Although the general recommendation from Microsoft to use automatic updates is good, especially for security updates, automatic updates of hardware device drivers can sometimes cause problems. The procedure below describes how to specifically turn off automatic updates only for device drivers. This procedure is not needed if you use a local network for your Viso setup. If you run Viso over a computer network, turn off the automatic updates of device drivers on all computers with Viso Services, Viso Recorder, and Viso Viewer.

  1. Open the Start window with tiles and type Device installation.
  2. Click Change Device Installation Settings.
  3. To the question "Do you want to automatically download manufacturers' apps and custom icons available for your devices?", select No (your device might not work as expected).
  4. Click Save Changes.

Select Correct Power Options

To make sure the computer shuts down properly.

On computers with Windows 10 and Windows 11, by default the computer resumes rather than restarts after shutdown. This can cause problems with Viso and associated software like N-Linx. Therefore, make sure the computer is really restarted after shutdown. Also, with Windows updates the options can become enabled again. Therefore, check after each Windows update whether the computer shutdown settings are correct.

  1. In the Windows start window with apps, type Power and then click Power & sleep settings.
  2. At the right side of your screen, choose Additional Power Settings.
  3. Select Choose what the power buttons do.
  4. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  5. Select the following options:
    • When I press the power button – Shut down.
    • When I close the lid – Shut down.
    • Under Shutdown settings, deselect the checkboxes Sleep, Hibernate, and Turn on fast startup (recommended).

Disable Port 80 in Skype

To make sure Skype does not use port 80. Port 80 is needed to install Viso Services.

Skype by default uses port 80. Viso Services also uses port 80. Installing Viso Services fails when Skype is open and occupies port 80. To solve this, close Skype before you install Viso Services. If this is not possible, disable port 80 in Skype and restart the computer.

  1. In Skype, choose Tools > Options > Advanced > Connection.
  2. Disable the checkbox in front of Use port 80 and 443 for additional incoming connections.
  3. Click OK and restart the computer.

Set Regional and Language Settings

To ensure that the regional time zone and language settings are according to your geographical location.

Changing the regional, time zone, and language settings during runtime may interfere with the proper working of Viso. All Viso computers in the same Viso network should have the same time zone and regional settings. The time zone settings should not be modified after the Viso system was used to create schedules and recordings. Date and time formats can be modified after installation, but it requires the Viso viewers to be restarted.

  1. In Windows Settings, configure Time & Language before installing Viso.
  2. Make sure that the time zone and the date and time formats are set the same way on all Viso computers.
