Overview

Which situation applies to you?

Noldus IT Installed Your Viso System

The computers are already set up. Also Viso has been set up. You can set up your locations, create users and start creating sessions.

You Bought an Extra Computer and Want to Connect It to the Viso Network

Carry out the following steps:

1. Install 1 Gb Ethernet card into the computers with Viso Services and Viso Recorder. This card is used to connect the computers to the switch. If you want to enable remote viewing, you must install two network cards into the Viso Recorder computer.
2. Give computers a fixed IP address.
3. Create exceptions in Windows Defender Firewall.
4. Switch off password protected sharing on Viso Recorder PC.
5. Turn off automatic updates for device drivers.
6. Select correct power options.
7. Disable port 80 in Skype.
8. Set regional and language settings.

Install 1 Gb Ethernet Card

To insert and configure the 1 Gb Ethernet card for each computer with Viso Services and Viso Recorder.

Prerequisites:

• You have an Intel PRO/1000 GT or Intel Pro/1000 PT Ethernet card.
• You purchased the computer yourself, or you bought the cameras after you received the computer.
• If you bought a complete Viso system from Noldus IT, the card has been installed and set up. You can skip this topic.

1. Turn off your computer and all connected peripherals, such as the monitor and printer. Make sure that the computer is unplugged.
2. Remove the PC's case according to the instructions provided in the PC's user manual.
3. Select a free PCIe expansion slot, and remove the corresponding extension cover. See PCIe Slot Properties for details on the slots in a Dell computer.
4. Unpack the Ethernet card, place it into the slot, and press it carefully into position. If the card does not fit into place easily, remove it and repeat the operation. When touching the board, its electronic components can be damaged by static electricity. To avoid any such risk, make sure that you are grounded. You can ground yourself by putting on an earthing wristlet and attaching its clip to the metal frame of the computer. If an earthing wristlet is not available, you can hold the metal frame with one hand while holding the Ethernet card in your other hand. Ensure also that your clothing does not touch any components while handling the card.
5. Fix the card to the chassis and re-fit the computer's cover.

PCIe Slot Properties

Different PCIe slots have different properties, resulting in different performances. When possible, choose the slot that gives maximum performance. To estimate performance, take note of the slot version. Do not use the graphic slots. Note that values are given per lane and should not be multiplied by the number of lanes in a slot (for example, x4) since the card has a 1x connector.

• PCIe v1.x: 250 MB/s
• PCIe v2.x: 500 MB/s
• PCIe v3.0: ~1 Gb/s
• PCIe v4.0: ~2 Gb/s

Give Computers a Fixed IP Address

To set the IP address of a computer to the same range as the cameras and the other computers in the Viso network, follow the steps below for each computer in the Viso network.

1. Open the Control Panel and choose Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
2. Click Change adapter settings on the left side of your window.
3. Right-click the Local Area Connection and click Properties. If your computer has more than one Local Area Connection, choose the one with which the computer is connected to the Viso network. To check which one this is, remove the cable from the IP port on your computer. The LAN connection that shows the disconnected symbol is the correct one.
4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
5. Click Use the following IP address and enter the IP address 192.168.0.51 for the first computer in the network. Enter 255.255.255.0 in the Subnet mask field. Leave the other fields empty. Give each computer in the network a unique number, for example give the other computers the consecutive last numbers 52, 53, etc.
6. Click OK and close the Control Panel.

Create Exceptions in Windows Defender Firewall

To make sure the streams in the Viso network are not blocked by Windows Defender Firewall. Viso uses port 5672 for communication. Therefore, allow traffic through port 5672.

1. Open the Control Panel and choose System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall.
2. On the left side of the window, click Advanced Settings.
3. Click Inbound Rule and click New Rule in the Actions pane.
4. In the New Inbound Rule Wizard window that opens, select Port and click Next.
5. Select TCP and enter 5672 in the Specific local ports field and click Next.
6. Click Allow the connection and click Next.
7. Select to which network the rule applies and click Next.
8. Give the rule a name, for example Viso connection, and click Finish.
9. Check in the Inbound Rules window that this rule is set to Enabled.
10. Click Outbound Rule and click New Rule in the Actions pane.
11. Repeat steps 4 to 9 for the outbound rule.
12. Close all Control Panel windows.
