Install Viso Components

Important: Do not insert your hardware key before the installation of Viso Services is complete. If you do so, drivers are automatically installed from the internet, which leads to incorrect functioning of the key. Drivers of the hardware key should be installed together with the Viso software.

Viso Web Services uses port 80, which is the standard HTTP port, for communication with the Viso Web App. It also needs this port during installation. Therefore, close internet programs like Skype, Outlook or Google Chrome before you install Viso. For Skype, you can also disable port 80 and leave it open during installation.

Aim: To install all Viso components in the Viso network.

Prerequisites: All computers, cameras and other hardware are connected and configured.

Carry out the following steps:

1. Install Viso Services. The Viso web server is installed with Viso Services.
2. Insert the hardware key in the Viso Services computer.
3. Install Viso Recorder. Viso Recorder Manager is automatically installed together with Viso Recorder.
4. Install Viso Viewer.

Note: A license for Viso comes with an activation key, to be used for activating your license after installation. See Activate Your Viso License.

Install Viso Services

1. Download the installation file via your MyNoldus account: click on Downloads and then Versions.
2. Double-click Viso Combined Setup.exe.
3. Select to install Viso Services or both Viso Services and Viso Recorder, and click Next.
4. Optionally, click the Options button to change the location where the software is installed.
5. Accept the license terms and conditions and click Install. Click Yes when a security warning message appears. The following setup prerequisites are installed:
   • N-Linx Server – The Noldus network communication protocol, needed for communication between the Viso components.
   • RabbitMQ Server – A platform to send and receive messages with applications.
   • Erlang OTP – Needed to run RabbitMQ.
   • Sentinel Runtime – Needed for the hardware key.
   • Microsoft .NET Framework – Needed to run Viso Services. It is installed if not already present on the computer.
   • Microsoft SQL Server Express Local DB – Needed for the Viso database.
6. The setup wizard continues with Viso Services. Click Close when done.
7. Now insert the hardware key in the Viso Services computer.

Important: Be careful with your hardware key. It is a very important piece of equipment, as it is your license and will not be replaced free of charge. Make sure that you do not lose the key. You will need to pay for a new license if you do so.

Install Viso Services with a Secure Connection

Viso versions 11.0.8620 and higher allow the use of security certificates to secure RabbitMQ messages. RabbitMQ is a core item used in N-Linx, Noldus' network communication protocol. It controls the message traffic between Viso Services, Viso Recorder and Viso Viewer.

Prerequisite: A security certificate needs to be set up and trusted on the Viso Services PC. Both the certificate file (*.crt) and the key file (*.key) must be present on the PC. You can use a certificate from a Certification Authority, a certificate made with the Noldus tool, or the default installed certificate. The certificate to secure the N-Linx communication can be the same as the certificate used to secure an HTTP(S) connection. See Appendix G, Security Certificates, for more information.

1. Rename the certificate files to nlxserver_cert_pem and nlxserver_key.pem.
2. Download the Viso installation zip file via your MyNoldus account: click on Downloads and then Versions.
3. Unzip the zip file and double-click Viso Combined Setup.exe.
4. Under Installation Type, select Custom and select to install Viso Services or both Viso Services and Viso Recorder. Then click Next.
5. Under Options, select Enable Secure Communication (TLS).
6. Under Certificates Folder, browse to the folder containing the certificate files.
7. Click Next if you want to install Viso Services/Viso Recorder in the default location, or browse to another location on the PC.
