Last updated: Jul 28, 2026

Manage Viso

Manage Users

To view the user status, or to edit or remove users.

Prerequisite: Your user rights allow user management (Technician or Administrator).

Procedure

Click on the menu button and choose User Management.

Tip: Click on a column header to sort the users.

To View The Status

The Status column shows the status of the users, whether they are logged in, and whether they are recording a session.

To Edit Users

Right-click a user's name and select Edit, or click on the pencil button on the right. For domain users, you can only change the user role. The other fields cannot be edited in Viso.

To Remove A Local User

Right-click its name and select Remove, or click on the cross on the right. If there are no references to that user in the Viso database, the user will be removed from Viso. If there are references to the user in Viso, because the user recorded or was invited to a session, the user will remain in the database. It will get the status Removed in the User Management window. Removed users are visible in the User Management window when the option Show Removed Users is selected.

To Remove A Global User

Delete the user from the domain and synchronize Viso with the domain. If there are no references to that user in the Viso database, the user will also be removed from Viso. If there are references to the user in Viso, because the user recorded or was invited to a session, the user will remain in the database. It will get the status Removed from Domain in the User Management window. Add the user again in the domain to re-enable it in Viso.

To Restore A Removed User

Click on the + button next to its name to add the user again.

To Reset The Password Of A Local User

  1. Right-click a user and select Edit.
  2. In the Password field, click Reset Password and enter a new password.

Important: Resetting the password of a domain user must be done in the domain settings.

To Reset The Password Of The Setup Account

The Setup password cannot be reset in Viso. It can be changed with a command line. To do so:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  2. In the Windows Task Manager window that appears, click on Services.
  3. Right-click Viso Services and select Stop.
  4. Open the command prompt window (cmd.exe).
  5. Go to the folder C:\Program Files\Noldus\Viso Services 11.
  6. Type VisoServices -p [new password] where [new password] is the password you want. The password should have at least six characters and may not include a space.
  7. Close the command line window.
  8. Locate Viso Services in the Services window, right-click it, and select Start.

Synchronize With Domain

To update Viso when users have been added to or removed from the domain.

Prerequisites:

  • Your Viso network is connected to the domain.
  • You enabled import of domain users in Viso.
  • Your user rights allow management of LDAP settings (Technician).

Procedure

  1. Click on the menu button and choose Settings > LDAP Synchronization.
  2. Click on the Synchronize Now button to synchronize immediately. Alternatively, choose one of the options under Automatic Synchronization to specify when synchronization with the domain should take place automatically.

Note: Users that are removed from the domain will be removed from Viso if there are no references to that user in the Viso database. If there are references to the user in Viso, because the user recorded or was invited to a session, the user will get the status Removed from Domain in Viso.

Manage Locations

Important: Before you make any of the changes described in this section, make sure that nobody is using the locations. Log in as Technician and open the Locations tab. Check that no location is locked or recording.

Prerequisite: Your user account allows Location management (Technician).

Procedure

  1. In the Locations tab, click on Edit Locations.
  2. Unfold the Viso Recorder computer item and click on the pencil button in the row of the location you want to change.
  • To change the location name, enter a new name and click OK.
  • To change cameras or camera settings, click on the pencil button in the row of the camera. It may take some seconds before the location becomes online again after you edit it.
  • To delete a location, click on the cross in the location row.

Manage Recordings

Change The Video Folder

To change the location where Viso stores its video files.

  1. Click on the arrow in the bottom right corner of your window and double-click the Viso Recorder Manager.
  2. Open the Video Folder tab and browse to the new folder.
  3. Click Test Sharing. When the selected folder has been shared, the text Success appears.

Force Stop Recording

To unlock a location, for example when a user has logged out before the recording was stopped.

Prerequisite: Your user account allows Location management (Technician).

  1. Open the Locations tab.
  2. Click on the Edit Locations button and unfold the Viso Recorder computer item.
  3. Click on the Stop Recording button and confirm that you want to force stop recording in the warning message that appears.

The session is now saved. Its name shows that the session was stopped and by whom.

Move Sessions

To move sessions from the hard disk of the Viso Recorder computer to another storage device, for example a company network drive. If the company network is backed up automatically, moving the sessions to this network also ensures backup.

Sessions are stored on the computer with Viso Recorder. If the sessions are not moved and deleted after debriefing, the hard disk of the Viso Recorder computer may rapidly become full because video files are large. This is especially the case if you have multiple Viso Recorders on one computer, each recording from multiple cameras.

Tip: Check the remaining disk space of the Viso Recorder computer in the Locations tab.

Prerequisite: Your user account allows moving sessions (Technician).

Share The Destination Folder

  1. Right-click the folder where the video files are going to be stored, and select Give Access To and then Specific People.
  2. Click on the arrow next to Add, select Everyone, and then click Add.
  3. Select Read/Write as Permission Level and click Share.
  4. In the window that appears, double-click the shared folder.
  5. Windows Explorer opens. Select the address in the address bar and write it down or copy it. This must be the network name of the shared folder, starting with \\, followed by the network and computer name and ending with \Sessions. You will need this address in the next section.
  6. Switch off password protected sharing on the computer with the shared folder.

Move Sessions In Viso

  1. Click on the menu button and choose Settings > Session Management.
  2. Paste the address copied in the previous section into the Location field of Session Management.
  3. Click on the Move Now button to move all sessions immediately. Alternatively, choose one of the options under Recurrence to specify when the sessions should be moved automatically.

Note: Moving sessions moves the videos to the specified location and changes the path to the videos in the Viso database, so the moved videos are used when sessions are played back.

Change The Camera's Zoom Speed

To make the camera zoom slower. With the default settings, the camera's zoom speed is maximal.

Prerequisites:

  • The camera supports ONVIF.
  • The camera has pan, tilt, and zoom control.

Procedure

  1. Close Viso.
  2. Make a backup of the file exe.config located in the folder C:\ProgramData\Noldus\Viso Recorder\11. By default the ProgramData folder is hidden. To view it, in Windows File Explorer click the View tab and select the Hidden Items checkbox.
  3. Open the original file in Notepad and locate the line: <ZoomSpeed>100</ZoomSpeed>
  4. Enter a lower number. Enter integer values only.
  5. Save the file.
  6. Open Viso again and log in. You can now use the new zoom speed.

Database Backup

Restore A Backup

To restore a previously saved backup of the database if the current database is damaged.

Viso creates a backup of the database every four hours that Viso is open without intermission.

  1. Run the file Restore Viso Database as administrator. The file is located in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Noldus\Viso.
  2. Follow the instructions on your screen to restore the backup.

Create A Copy Of The Database

To manually create a copy of the database and store it at a safe location.

  1. First check whether no locations are locked and no recordings are taking place. Log in as Technician, open the Locations tab, and check the status of the locations.
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  3. In the Windows Task Manager window that appears, open the Services tab.
  4. Right-click Viso Services and select Stop.
  5. Copy the files VisoDatabase.mdf and VisoDatabase_log.ldf to a safe location. These files are located in the folder C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Noldus\Viso\.
  6. Locate Viso Services in the Services window, right-click it, and select Start.

Should anything happen to the database, stop Viso Services following the procedure above and copy the files VisoDatabase.mdf and VisoDatabase_log.ldf back to the exact original location you copied them from. Then start Viso Services again.
