B - Rebooting Viso
Rebooting the Viso PCs and cameras is the first thing to do when you encounter any issues. Issues are more likely to occur if the PCs have been powered on for many days. For optimal performance of Viso, the PCs should be rebooted daily. Please see below for how to setup Windows to automatically reboot the PC daily. PROCEDURE
1. Power down all PCs
Including the ones which do not have a monitor/keyboard attached
2. Power down the black Noldus Audio Video rack
This rack is often in the corner or in a closet by itself.
3. After 1 minute, Power on the PCs and Noldus rack back up.
If a reboot does not resolve the issue, see the troubleshooting section.
C - Scheduling Automatic PC Reboots
The following steps describe how to automate a daily PC reboot task:
1. On the Windows Start button, type Task Scheduler and open the Task Scheduler app.
2. In the Actions pane on the right, select Create Task.
3. On the General tab, fill in the Name field. e.g. "Nightly Reboot"
4. Select the radio button Run whether user is logged on or not
5. Check the box Run with highest privileges.
6. Click the Triggers tab and click New…
7. Under Settings, select Daily and set the start time to a convenient time for the server to reboot. Click
OK.
8. Click the Actions tab and click New…
9. For Action, keep the default selected Start a program.
10. In the Settings pane, for Program/script: enter C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe with the
arguments /s /t 0. (Shutdown after a time of zero seconds.) Click OK.
11. Click OK.
12. Enter the User name and Password and click OK.
User name: .\Noldus Password: Noldus123 If your Viso system is on a domain joined computer, contact your local IT support. Power down AV rack: There is no way to automate a power down of the AV rack (black Noldus Audio Video rack, often in corner/closet). If PCs are rebooted daily and you are still experiencing a Viso issue, please turn the AV rack off for 1 minute then power back on and test the issue. If the issue is not resolved, see troubleshooting section.
D - Taking Locations On/Offline
Taking a location on and offline can be a good solution if you experience any of the following problems or error messages: Camera Configuration Problem Configuration error Connection with Viso Services lost error Cannot open a location Location is offline PROCEDURE 1. Log into Viso with a Technician-level account 2. Go to Locations and click on Edit Locations. 3. Expand the Computer Name where you want to take a Location on/offline. 4. Under the Select for Recording column, select/deselect the checkbox. Allow a minute between selections and select it again to bring the Location online again. 5. Open the Location and test the issue. If the error/issue isn't resolved, please recreate the Location. See Section F. If the Location is still Offline after the Location is recreated, antivirus software might be interfering with network traffic. Contact your local IT support to disable any antivirus software or, alternatively, allow an exception for Viso traffic.
