Non-compliant or aborted runs not being saved in CatWalk XT

Last updated: Nov 01, 2026

Problem

Runs that are manually stopped (aborted/non-compliant) during acquisition are not saved to the experiment, and the data from those runs is lost.

Details

CatWalk XT has a configurable option to retain or discard aborted/non-compliant runs. If this option is deselected, stopped runs are discarded automatically. This is a settings issue and is distinct from the existing KB article on data lost when manually stopping a run (which covers a different mechanism). Affects all CatWalk XT versions.

Solution

1. In CatWalk XT, navigate to the **Run Detection** or **Acquisition Settings** (depending on version: look under Acquire > Settings or the Detection Settings panel).
2. Locate the option labeled **'Keep aborted runs'**, **'Save non-compliant runs'**, or similar wording.
3. Ensure this checkbox is **enabled/checked** if you wish to retain aborted runs for review or manual classification.
4. Save the settings and test by performing and aborting a short trial run to confirm it is now retained in the experiment run list.
5. Note: runs aborted before any data was written to disk cannot be recovered regardless of this setting.
