DanioScope Acquisition Freezes and Crashes During Video Recording
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
During video acquisition in DanioScope, the software freezes and then crashes, making it impossible to complete recordings.
Details
Reported when acquisition is performed directly through DanioScope while using a camera whose driver or streaming pipeline conflicts with the software. The issue did not reproduce on all machines, suggesting a hardware/driver or camera-interface incompatibility. Affected setup involved a camera also used with EthoVision. The crash does not occur when an alternative capture method is used.
Solution
1. Stop attempting direct acquisition through DanioScope.
2. Use Pylon Viewer (Basler camera utility) to capture the video externally instead of using DanioScope's built-in acquisition.
3. Record the video in Pylon Viewer and save it to disk in a format compatible with DanioScope (e.g., AVI or MP4 at the required frame rate and resolution).
4. Import the saved video file into DanioScope for analysis.
5. If direct DanioScope acquisition is required, update camera drivers, check for DanioScope software updates, and verify that no other application (e.g., EthoVision) is concurrently accessing the camera device.
