DanioVision IO-Box / IO-Warrior Not Detected by EthoVision XT

Last updated: Oct 29, 2026

Problem

EthoVision XT cannot find or connect to the DanioVision IO-box and displays a connection error, halting experiment setup.

Details

The error appears in EthoVision XT when attempting to use the DanioVision chamber. Windows Device Manager does not list 'IO-Warrior56' under the connected devices. Reported on EthoVision XT 16 (EV16). Can affect multiple units simultaneously. In some cases the root cause is an incorrect Arena Settings selection rather than a hardware fault.

Solution

**Step 1 – Verify the Arena Settings selection:**
1. Open EthoVision XT and navigate to Arena Settings.
2. Ensure the correct light source is selected (e.g., 'White Bottom Light'). An incorrect selection here can cause the IO-box to appear disconnected.
3. Correct any wrong selection, save, and retest.

**Step 2 – Check USB cable and Windows Device Manager:**
1. Open Windows Device Manager on the DanioVision PC.
2. Look for 'IO-Warrior56' under the device list.
3. If it is absent, replace the USB cable connecting the IO-box to the PC.
4. After replacing the cable, confirm 'IO-Warrior56' appears in Device Manager.
5. Restart EthoVision XT and verify the IO-box is now detected.
