TCU Ed1 Error / 6-Blink Fault – SD Card Logging Issue
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
The DanioVision Temperature Control Unit (TCU) displays an 'Ed1' error code and/or the error indicator flashes 6 times continuously.
Details
Symptoms: The TCU front panel shows 'Ed1' (sometimes preceded by small numbers such as '1' and '3' appearing briefly), accompanied by a continuous 6-blink red LED pattern. The unit may still attempt to operate but logging is disrupted. Seen across multiple sites and hardware generations.
Solution
1. Turn off the TCU and open the enclosure.
2. Locate and remove the SD card from the mainboard.
3. Copy any existing log files from the SD card to a PC (retain these in case Noldus support needs them).
4. Delete all files from the SD card, then reinsert it securely.
5. Check that the ribbon/cable connecting the mainboard to the SD card reader is firmly seated.
6. Power the TCU back on and verify the error is cleared.
7. If the error persists after the above steps, contact Noldus support and provide the copied log files. A filter replacement (see related article on coolant/filter maintenance) may also be required if the fault co-occurs with coolant-related symptoms.
8. As a last resort, arrange an RMA for repair or replacement of the TCU.
