EthoVision / ErasmusLadder Software Stuck at 'Waiting for Host' – Missing or Invalid License
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
After connecting the Erasmus Ladder hardware and launching the software, the application stops at the 'Waiting for Host' screen and does not proceed to the next step.
Details
The software hangs indefinitely at the 'Waiting for Host' stage during startup or session initialization. This occurs when the PC running the ErasmusLadder software does not have a valid software license associated with it. Observed in at least two cases (one direct customer, one routed through a distributor). May also surface when hardware has been relocated or the software reinstalled without re-activating the license.
Solution
1. Confirm that a valid ErasmusLadder software license has been purchased and is associated with the computer running the software.
2. Open the ErasmusLadder software and navigate to Help > License Information (or equivalent) to check license status.
3. If no license is present or the license is expired/invalid, contact Noldus Support (or your regional distributor) with your Purchase Order number and hardware serial number to obtain or reactivate a license.
4. Once a valid license is installed, restart the software and verify that it proceeds past the 'Waiting for Host' screen.
5. If the system has been physically relocated, also verify that network/router settings are correctly configured for host communication (see KB article: 'Erasmus Ladder Not Connecting to Computer – Router Light Red and Ladder Identification Steps').
