LCD Screen Showing G/R Values During Session – Understanding Rung Status Codes
Last updated: Oct 29, 2026
Problem
During a perturbation session, the LCD screen displays values prefixed with 'G' and 'R' (e.g., G1, R1). Users are unsure whether these indicate how long the animal remained stationary or represent some other measurement.
Details
Symptoms: Unexpected alphanumeric codes appear on the LCD during an active session; codes are not consistently correlated with animal movement pauses. The 'G' and 'R' prefixes may be confused with duration or behavioral metrics. Per the manual, a 'Sensors: …' message appears when one or more rungs are reporting a fault.
Solution
1. Understand the notation: 'G' stands for the Green row of rungs and 'R' stands for the Red row of rungs. The number following the letter identifies the specific rung (e.g., G1 = Green row, rung 1).
2. These codes are NOT duration readings. They do not reflect how long the animal was stationary.
3. If these codes appear during a session, they are most likely rung/sensor status indicators. Check whether the display shows a 'Sensors: …' message, which indicates one or more rungs may be faulty.
4. Inspect the flagged rung(s) physically for obstruction, damage, or misalignment.
5. If a rung fault is confirmed, contact Noldus support with the specific G/R rung code(s) displayed for further hardware diagnostics.
