All-In-One PC Not Suitable for EthoVision XT Acquisition – Camera Installation and GPU Limitations

Last updated: Nov 01, 2026

Problem

A user is considering or has purchased an all-in-one PC for use with EthoVision XT and wants to know whether it is compatible for full acquisition use, including camera connection and Deep Learning features.

Details

All-in-one PCs (e.g., certain Dell or HP all-in-one models) lack PCIe expansion slots required for installing a Basler GigE network interface card. The integrated or mobile-class GPU found in most all-in-one systems is typically insufficient to run EthoVision's Deep Learning module. This applies to EthoVision XT 18 and 19. The machine may still function for post-acquisition analysis if the software can be installed, but it cannot serve as a primary acquisition workstation.

Solution

1. Do not use an all-in-one PC as the primary EthoVision acquisition computer.
2. All-in-one systems generally cannot accommodate a dedicated Basler GigE PCIe NIC, which is required for GigE camera connectivity.
3. The integrated GPU in most all-in-one PCs does not meet the minimum requirements for EthoVision XT 19 Deep Learning (which requires a supported discrete NVIDIA GPU).
4. An all-in-one PC may be used as an analysis-only workstation if EthoVision can be installed and a valid license is available, but acquisition and Deep Learning features will not be available.
5. For full acquisition use, select a tower or rack workstation with available PCIe slots. Refer to Noldus recommended PC specifications for EthoVision XT 18/19 for guidance on GPU, RAM, and storage requirements.
