Checking Whether the Trial & Hardware Control Module Is Licensed in EthoVision XT
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
A user cannot find the Trial Control or Hardware Control settings in EthoVision XT and is unsure whether their license includes the Trial & Hardware Control module.
Details
The Trial & Hardware Control module is an optional licensed add-on for EthoVision XT. Without it, trial control settings, hardware output configurations, and related menus are not available. Users may also be unable to see these settings if the hardware dongle is not plugged in or the SBLK license is not activated.
Solution
1. Open EthoVision XT.
2. Go to Help > About EthoVision XT > License Info (or similar license information screen).
3. Review the list of modules. Modules with a check mark or 'Active' status are included in your license.
4. Look for 'Trial & Hardware Control' in the list.
5. If it is not checked/active:
- Your current license does not include this module. Contact Noldus Sales to add it.
6. If it appears active but settings are still not visible:
- Ensure the USB hardware dongle is plugged in (for dongle-based licenses).
- For SBLK licenses, confirm the license is activated and not in an error state.
- Check that you are in a full acquisition-enabled mode (not analysis-only mode).
7. If the module is confirmed active and the dongle is connected, consult the Trial & Hardware Control documentation or contact Noldus Support.
