Downloading and Activating a Legacy Version of EthoVision XT on a New Computer – Version No Longer Actively Supported
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
A user needs to install an older version of EthoVision XT (e.g., XT 15 or XT 16) on a new computer because their license does not cover the current version. The older version may no longer be prominently listed on the MyNoldus download page.
Details
Older versions such as EthoVision XT 15 and XT 16 are no longer fully supported by Noldus (no active bug fixes or priority support). However, users with valid licenses for these versions may still need to install them on new hardware. Installation files for past versions can be accessed via the MyNoldus portal or provided directly by support. Simply moving the USB dongle to the new computer is generally sufficient for dongle-licensed versions. A NoldusCare upgrade to XT 19 is strongly recommended to regain full support and access to the latest features. Note: this article covers versions 15–16; for Windows 11 compatibility of versions 15–17, see 'EthoVision XT Compatibility with Windows 11 – Older Versions (XT 15–XT 17)'.
Solution
1. Log in to MyNoldus (noldus.com/app/home) using the email address associated with your license.
2. Navigate to the Downloads section. Past versions (XT 15, XT 16, etc.) should be accessible alongside current versions.
3. If the version is not visible, contact Noldus support and request a direct download link for your licensed version.
4. Download and run the installer on your new computer.
5. If your license uses a USB hardware dongle, simply plug the dongle into the new computer after installation. No additional activation steps are needed for dongle licenses.
6. If your license is SBLK-based, follow the standard SBLK activation process for the installed version.
7. Note: Noldus strongly recommends upgrading to EthoVision XT 19 via a NoldusCare renewal, which provides full support, the latest features, and priority response times. Contact your Noldus representative for an upgrade quote.
