Downloading and Installing an Older Version of EthoVision XT (Legacy Versions) on a New PC

Last updated: Oct 29, 2026

Problem

A user with a legacy EthoVision license (e.g., version 7, 11.5, 12, 14, or 15) needs to install that older version on a new PC, typically after a hardware replacement, and cannot find the installer.

Details

Applies when a lab has a USB hardware dongle or older license tied to a version earlier than the current release. Noldus maintains installer archives for older versions. Some older licenses (e.g., version 7) were tested on Windows builds that predate Windows 10/11, so compatibility with current operating systems may be limited. In some cases, an older license may have been silently upgraded to a later version (e.g., a version 11.5 license upgraded to version 12), and the newer version should be installed instead.

Solution

1. Identify the exact license number and version from the USB dongle label or your purchase records.
2. Contact Noldus Support with the license number and the version you need. Support can confirm whether the license is still at the original version or has been upgraded to a newer version.
3. If the license has been upgraded (e.g., from 11.5 to 12), install the upgraded version rather than the original, as it is backward compatible with your existing data and settings.
4. Noldus Support will provide a download link to the appropriate installer from the archive.
5. Note: very old versions (e.g., EthoVision 7) were built and tested on older Windows platforms. If your new PC runs Windows 10 or Windows 11, compatibility is not guaranteed. Consider upgrading the license to a current version for full OS compatibility.
6. Install the software on the new PC, then connect the USB dongle before launching EthoVision to activate the license.
