Enlarging or Expanding a Drawn Zone or Object in EthoVision Arena Settings
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
A user wants to expand the boundary of a drawn arena zone or object by a fixed distance (e.g., make it 2 cm larger in all directions) without redrawing it from scratch.
Details
EthoVision XT allows zone dimensions to be adjusted numerically in the Arena Settings panel after initial drawing. This can be used to uniformly scale a zone. Applies to any zone or object shape in Arena Settings.
Solution
1. In Arena Settings, select the zone or object you want to enlarge.
2. Look at the properties panel below the drawing area — it displays the current size/position values for the selected object.
3. Update the dimension fields (width, height, or radius depending on shape) to increase the size by the desired amount (e.g., add 2 cm to width and height, accounting for the scale calibration).
4. Confirm the change — the zone will resize in the preview.
5. If precise symmetric expansion is needed and the numerical fields do not provide a direct 'expand by X cm' option, calculate the new total dimensions manually: original dimension + (2 × expansion distance) for width and height.
6. Save the arena settings before proceeding.
